Our Story
How it all began
At the time it seemed like it was luck, but years later it seems like the universe was determined that Hannah and Jamie would meet. Since their teenage years Hannah and Jamie were always at most one or two mutual friends away. Then in 2017 a mutual friend asked if Jamie could help Hannah with studying for her grade 12 math exam, and the rest was history. Their first conversation might have been about logarithms, but they became fast and easy friends from there. During the summer after high school they worked together, often spending lunch breaks in Jamie’s car.
One day that summer they made plans with two friends to get sushi, and at the last minute their other friends cancelled, Hannah and Jamie went anyway. What was meant to be a friendly lunch, became their first date.
They fell in love that summer, completely inseparable as best-friends and as a couple. The early days of their relationship was marked by starting university together; Jamie moved Hannah into her dorm, and eventually moved a (what Jamie would call ugly) used couch into her first apartment with her roommates, having endless study dates together, and dedicating their free time trying to find the best chai latte in Halifax, an ongoing mission of theirs.
Their first home together was a tiny, rundown apartment in the core of downtown Halifax that they moved into in January 2020. That same month they adopted their beloved cat Corky. Just three months into living together, like the rest of the world, Hannah and Jamie were stuck in lockdown for an undetermined amount of time. They spent their Sunday mornings that Spring making the 2 minute walk to Coburg Coffee’s (rest in peace) “walk through” to pick up their chai lattes and walk through the public gardens. They’d wander around the garden, enjoying the fresh air and sit at a bench to watch the ducks. Out of all the days spent together during this time, those were some of the most special.
Long after they moved out of that apartment they have still found a home in the gardens, looking forward every spring to sitting at their bench (with a latte of course), and watching last year's fresh spring ducks become adults. InJuly 2024 after stopping at one of the benches by the duck pond Jamie asked Hannah to marry him. Now, having spent most of their engagement long-distance while Hannah is in law school, September 2027 will celebrate not only the marriage of Hannah and Jamie but of the reunion of finally being together again.
